Magda Linette at Home on Hard Court

Poland’s Linette has already won three WTA titles in her career, including one earlier this year at the Hua Hin Open. It turned out to be a depleted field there but take nothing away from Linette dropped just one set en route her third title victory.

It hadn’t been the best of starts for Linette this year, when she lost in the opening round at Shenzhen and then in the second round at Hobart. With virtually no rhythm going into the Australian Open, Linette squandered a set lead against Arantxa Rus in the opening round of the Australian Open to go down in three sets, before the resurrection came in the Fed Cup.

She won all her matches at that team tournament and followed it up with her showing at the Hua Hin Open. Unfortunately for her, since the return of tennis earlier this month, Linette’s results haven’t been much to gloat. An opening round win at Lexington was followed by back to back defeats – including one in her Cincinnati Open opener to 35-year-old Vera Zvonareva.

Inglis in Her Second Major Main Draw Appearance

While this is her second appearance in a Grand Slam main draw what’s interesting is the first time she played was back in 2016 at her home Slam, in Melbourne. She was knocked out in the first round by Tatiana Maria. Three qualifying attempts later, Inglis has got herself a direct entry into the main draw on the back of numerous withdrawals from the competition.

This isn’t to say she doesn’t deserve this having shown a lot of spark at the lower tier competitions. After failing to make it to the main draws at both Brisbane and Melbourne at the start of the year, she shifted her focus to ITF-level competitions and made the final at the Burnie and Perth ITF – winning both of them.

And during the pandemic break she was a part of the UTR Pro Tennis series, where she played 11 matches and won 10 of them to give herself a solid, fighting chance in this encounter.

Magda Linette v Maddison Inglis Prediction & Tip

Expect Linette to come through but if Inglis can rattle her opponent early, we might even see a three-setter in this match, and that’s despite the Pole starting off as 1/7 to win it.

Tip: Over 18.5 games in the match: 8/11 (bet365)
