Anastasija Sevastova v Cori Gauff Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between two players separated by 14 years by age and just six places by rankings.

It’s safe to say Sevastova doesn’t enjoy playing on hard court surfaces but the way her season has gone in 2020, it might be the biggest understatement of the this year. Having played eight matches on hard court surfaces, including two during the pandemic break, the three-time WTA title winner hasn’t won a single one of them.
This includes a first round defeat as recently as the Cincinnati Open where she lost to Kristina Mladenovic in the first round and in straight sets too.
To be fair to Sevastova, her luck with draws hasn’t been the best. Some of her opponents on hard court surfaces this year include Sofia Kenin, Donna Vekic, Marketa Vondrosouva and Anett Kontaveit, some really tough players to surmount. And now she faces Cori Gauff.
That said, the former world number 11 could have won the odd match here or there, underlining a serious erosion of confidence.

Gauff Hoping to Take Advantage of Opponent Form
Gauff’s currently 50th in the world and has had a couple of solid showings this season. Having made the fourth round at the Australian Open earlier this year, Gauff resumed tennis after the resumption of the competitions following the pandemic break with another impressive performance in Lexington.
The American defeated Caroline Dolehide, Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur to make it to the semifinal where she went down to the in-form Jennifer Brady.
Interestingly, she had begun as a favourite in her opening round against Maria Sakkari at the Cincinnati Open but was routed 6-1, 6-3 in that opener. That defeat shouldn’t affect her morale too much given all that’s gone on otherwise in her career but can it provide Sevastova that opening she needs?

No surprises here that Gauff starts off as 8/15 to win this encounter while Sevastova is a distant 6/4. A Gauff win is a safe bet, but for something more risky and hence rewarding, go with a straight-set win for the American.
