Coric Looking Forward to Playing ‘Good Tennis’

The tennis calendar may have had a few tweaks and adjustments due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic, but for Borna Coric the goals are the same: to stay healthy and play good tennis.

Coric had an unforgettable summer, starting with his participation at the Adria Tour. He was among a number of players who tested positive at the event, which resulted in its cancellation. Then there was a heated argument on Twitter in which he disputed Nick Kyrgios’ criticism of players involved at the disputatiously-organized Adria Tour flouting Covid-19 guidelines.

The Croat has been quick to put that side of the story to bed, and has since recovered fully from the disease. He is certainly not going to cross paths with Australian anytime soon as Kyrgios elected to withdraw from the US Open.

Coric has been training hard during lock down. He spent a few weeks in isolation, before resuming to play the Eastern European Championship in Serbia last month. His return to competitive action brought a second round exit at the hands of Belgium’s David Goffin.

Andujar Reached 2019 US Open Fourth Round

Pablo Andujar arrived at last year’s US Open with low expectations having garnered a modest two tour-level wins on hard courts all year. The Spaniard was on the brink of retirement after fighting off three elbow surgeries under three different doctors in the two years before that.

The 34-year-old’s ATP ranking deteriorated to the 1800s as recently as February 2018. But he made an astonishing comeback that same year and won an ATP tour level on the clay courts of Marrakech. He collected a handful of ATP Challenger titles in an effort to soar up the rankings.

After reaching another final at the Grand Prix Hassan II in 2019, Andujar’s best was yet to come. And in New York he arrived last year to greater effect. He had never gone past the second round in his career at the Big Apple, but produced a series of impressive performances to reach the fourth-round of Grand Slam for the first time.

Coric v Andujar Prediction & Tip

The scenario is pretty much reminiscent to last year for Pablo Andujar who arrives at this year’s US Open with zero tour-level wins on hard courts. It would take a seismic effort for the veteran Spaniard to overcome Coric’s rock-solid baseline game.

Tip: Under 31.5 games: 5/6 (bet365)
