Naomi Osaka v Misaki Doi Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting between Osaka and Doi and the world number 10 won that with ease. Osaka came through 6-4, 6-4 in the first round of that encounter in Tokyo in 2016.

The Japanese number one has had a mixed bag of a week at the Western & Southern Open. She fought well to reach the semifinal of the competition before pulling out in solidarity with the recent killing of an Afro-American man in the USA.
Osaka then returned to play her semifinal against Elise Mertens, after the tournament was paused for a day and the organisers convinced her not to withdraw. She defeated Mertens to enter the final but then for the second time had to withdraw from the encounter, this time thanks to a hamstring injury.
It now remains to be seen if Osaka will be able to recover quickly enough to feature in this opener against Doi; having drawn to play on Monday instead of Tuesday. Because if she cannot, it would be an unfortunate turn of events given the kind of form Osaka had shown all week.
She defeated Karolina Muchova, Dayana Yastremska, Anett Kontaveit and Mertens before her final walkover to Victoria Azarenka.

Doi Yet to Win a Match Since Resumption
It’s been an inconsistent season for Doi in which she has had a decent showing at only the Indian Well $125k competition. She reached the final of that tournament before losing to Irina Camelia-Begu, and that’s where the tennis season had ended because of the pandemic.
Before that, Doi’s season had seen her lose four successive matches – a couple of first round defeats at Shenzhen and Melbourne, another at the Fed Cup and then a loss in the Dubai Open qualifiers.
It was only in Doha that Doi managed to make it to the main draw as a lucky loser but another opening loss followed.
Doi will be slightly peeved with her performances, having shown signs of a career resurrection last season. She had won the title at Bastad before making it to the final of the Hiroshima Open.
Naomi Osaka v Misaki Doi Prediction & Tip
Osaka might be 1/8 to win this but her fitness is an issue and that is also why we would be apprehensive of taking too many risks here. If the match does get played, we might see Doi stretching Osaka a tad.
