Former World No. 4 Garcia in Strife This Season

Other than at the WTA Lyon which was held at indoor courts just prior to the tennis lockdown due to the pandemic, Garcia hasn’t won two matches in a row this season. And even at Lyon, after beating Greet Minnen and Ysaline Bonaventure, Garcia fell to Alison van Uytvanck in straight sets in that quarterfinal.

There were three, first round defeats too. At the Hobart International, Garcia fell to little-known Lizette Cabrera in her opener, then lost to Fiona Ferro at the St. Peterburg Open before a 6-3, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Bernarda Pera in the Qatar Open first round.

What could make things tougher for Garcia is she didn’t play a single exhibition during the pandemic break and while she shocked Sloane Stephens in the opening round at the Cincinnati Open, the Frenchwoman faced defeat in the second round. The eventual winner Victoria Azarenka sent her packing in straight sets.

Paolini’s Struggled on Hard Court

The Italian world number 96 has played in six tournaments on hard court surfaces, but in all but one of them failed to make it to the main draw. Her only win of the season on these courts came in qualifier at Shenzhen while in the only main draw match she played, at the Australian Open, Paolini lost to Anna Blinkova in straight sets.

This clay court specialist opted to play in two clay tournaments after the pandemic break; at Palermo and Prague. She started off with a win against Daria Kasatkina but then suffered back to back losses, before losing in the first qualifying round at Cincinnati to Caroline Dolehide.

So now while she plays Garcia, who is herself struggling for form, it’s tough to see a way in which this Italian can get past her opponent to win her first ever Grand Slam main draw match.

Caroline Garcia v Jasmine Paolini Prediction & Tip

Garcia is 1/5 to win this despite her form and it’s more or less to do with her opponent’s lack of results this season. There might be bit of a tussle at the start but once Garcia finds her rhythm, there shouldn’t be too much problem.

Tip: Garcia to win in straight sets: 8/15 (bet365)
