Novak Looking To Build On 2019 Season

Dennis Novak posted a thoroughly outstanding season in 2019 by his standards. He clinched his maiden ATP Challenger title on the hard courts of Taipei in mid April, beating Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky in the final.

Although he was made to wait for his second tournament win, it arrived at the back end of the year when he was unleashed in Bratislava, streaking to the title in a very strong lineup which featured the likes of Alexei Popyrin, Norbert Gombos, Egor Gerasimov and Damir Dzumhur – the player he beat in the championship match.

The Austrian No.2 cracked the top-100 for the first time shortly after the ATP Cup earlier in January. His rise was rather slow as compared to his contemporary and fellow friend Dominic Thiem who is now part of the highest echelon in the sport.

Novak warmed up for only his second main draw appearance at the US Open by playing at Cincinnati Masters where he was dumped in the second round of qualifying by Aljaz Bedene.

Davidovich Fokina Eyeing Bigger Moves

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is quite possibly one of the longest names of any tennis player, but the young Spaniard likes to keep everything short in his game. From deft drop shots anywhere from the baseline to the cheeky underarm serves, Davidovich Fokina seems to have mastered the art of doing the hard shots in tennis with minimal difficulty.

Born and raised in Malaga to Russian parents, the 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout year in 2019 when he captured two ATP Challenger titles –  the first of which arrived in his home country in Sevilla, Spain.

Among his significant breathroughs: he beat Gael Monfils in Estoril to reach the semifinals of an ATP tour level event for the very first time. He had not registered a single tour-level match win when he arrived on the Portuguese Riviera, but he beat a trio of top-60 players, the highest casualty being the flamboyant Frenchman.

Davidoch Fokina’s late surge in the closing stages of last season earned him a spot at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan. He also made his top-100 debut, peaking at No.82.

At this year’s Australian Open he won his first Grand Slam match.

Novak v Davidovich Fokina Prediction & Tip one

Novak and Davidovich Fokina, unsurprisingly have taken a particular liking for clay. Both players invested themselves in a handful of clay court matches in the last month, with the Austrian playing 20 matches on the dirt. We reckon these two players might take time to find their groove here. Expect a long afternoon.

Tip: Five sets in the match: 12/5 (bet365)
