Swiatek Was Beaten On Her Return To Hard Courts

Iga Swiatek last played a hard court match before the Cincinnati Open when she took to court at the Qatar Total Open just before the tennis tour was temporarily suspended. That was six months to be precise. She beat Donna Vekic in the opening round in Doha before falling to Svetlana Kuznetsova.

The talented young Pole was heavily involved in a couple of exhibition tournaments during the last month. She won the Elle Spirit Open event in Switzerland which was played on the clay, before embarking on another trip to play Tipsport Elite Trophy in Czech Republic where she beat the likes of Karolina Pliskova and Marketa Vondrousova, also on the dirt.

Swiatek made huge strides in the last 18 months of competitive tennis. She reached her first WTA final in Lugano last April, and made the fourth round of the French Open in her debut at the Grand Slam event. Her season did end prematurely last year at the US Open where she suffered a foot injury that required surgery.

The 19-year-old is excited to compete again, although her US Open series started in poor fashion. She lost to Christina McHale in the first round at the Western & Southern Open, but she did get enough matches under her belt on the doubles court with partner Viktoria Kuzmova.

Kudermetova Pulled the Rabbit out Of the Hat in Cincy

Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova scored the biggest win of her professional career in the second round of the Western & Southern Open when she upset the top seed and World No.3 Karolina Pliskova.

On the back of a marathon three-set win over Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic which took nearly three hours, the World No.41 rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the first set to clinch only her third career top-10 win.

The Kazan-based native made a promising start to the year when she made the semifinals at the WTA event in Hobart. However, she suffered early exits at the Australian Open, St. Petersburg, Dubai, and Doha, winning a combined total of three matches.

The 23-year-old is making her second straight main draw appearance at the US Open, but she doesn’t have fond memories from last year as she went down to World No.129 Francesca Di Lorenzo of the United States.

Swiatek v Kudermetova Prediction & Tip

Given Kudermetova’s big win at the Cincinnati Masters, the bookies seem to have given an afterthought of the money line market. The Russian’s odds have dropped significantly, and this is an indication of the good form that the 23-year-old is in right now.

Tip: Kudermetova to win: 11/10 (bet365)
