Petra Kvitova v Kateryna Kozlova Head to Head
This is the first time meeting between Kvitova and Kozlova.

Seeded sixth in the tournament on the back of numerous top-10 withdrawals, Kvitova needed just 62 minutes to get past Irina-Camelia Begu in her opening round. She won 6-3, 6-2 to move into the second round of the US Open.
Coming on the back of a first round shock at the Cincinnati Open last week, this was a much improved performance from the former Wimbledon winner, as she maintained the pressure on an opponent she has always beaten in the past.
Begu showed some fight as she prevented Kvitova from taking a 4-1 lead and then broke her higher-ranked opponent to bring it back on serve in the first set. There wasn’t much she could do after that though as Kvitova broke back in the eighth game and served it out to take a set lead.
Kvitova faced some challenge at the start of the second set when Begu won six points in a row but that was as far as that lasted. The Czech rattled off a couple of breaks of serve to take the second set and the match and set up this meeting. She will be gunning to better her US Open career-showing of having made it to the quarterfinal on a couple of occasions but first must beat 99th-ranked opponent in the second.

Kozlova Doubles Her Win Tally
Before coming into this tournament, Kozlova’s win-loss record in main draws this year read 1-4. Over and above that, she had come into the first round here on the back of a first qualifying round loss at the Cincinnati Open. Her only only victory having come in the first round of Hobart against Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second week of January.
Which is why we thought her opponent Whitney Osuigwe had a chance to cause an upset but it was Kozlova who prevailed in straight sets in the end, She won 6-3, 7-5 in two tight sets to make the second round but will now face the test of her career.
Kozlova would like to achieve a twin objective of wanting to upset a top-20 player and move into the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time ever in her career. She has done the former before, having beaten Jelena Ostapenko in 2018 and Karolina Pliskova in 2019 – both world number five at that stage – and so has the experience in that sense.
