David Goffin v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head

The head-to-head is two wins apiece, but Krajinovic leads 2-1 at tour level, winning both meetings on hard courts. Goffins’s solitary success came on clay courts of Roland Garros in 2015.

Goffin Overcomes Two Big Servers

David Goffin was handed one of the toughest draws at the US Open, facing big-serving Reilly Opelka of the United States in the first round. The seventh seed admitted after the match he was relieved to have converted his chances (won four of seven crucial break points), and the sight of Opelka across the net in a first round of a Grand Slam is not something he desires.

Goffin also added that the absence of fans acted as an added advantage considering the vociferous home support Opelka was likely to receive and flourish on. The Belgian then hanged tough to beat another big server in the shape of Lloyd Harris of South Africa in four sets.

The 29-year-old lost serve four times, and won only 43% of points behind his second serve against Harris, something he will need to improve in his next match against a better returner like Krajinovic.

The Belgian is aiming to reach the fourth round of the US Open for the fourth straight year – his career-best achievement in New York.

Krajinovic in Top Form Ahead of Goffin Showdown

Filip Krajinovic has been in terrific form before, after and during lockdown. That in itself is a testament to his new-found confidence and consistency which has eluded him throughout the years. The Serbian though has been unlucky with injuries, spending more time on the treatment table than on court in 2018.

He has since maintained a decent spell of good health, finishing 2019 with a top-40 year-end ranking. It was just his second top-40 finish  of his career, but he has made major strides in 2020. He is 24-9 for the season including exhibition matches players during the tour’s suspension.

The world no.26 made two semifinals on the indoor hard courts of Montpellier and Rotterdam, losing both times to eventual winner Gael Monfils. He carried his good form to the Adria Tour and Eastern European Championships on the clay courts of Serbia.

Krajinovic returned post-pandemic at the Cincinnati Masters where he demolished Australian Open finalist Dominic Thiem 6-2 6-1 en route to the quarterfinals.

This is already Krajinovic’s best showing at the US Open.

Goffin v Krajinovic Prediction & Tip

Krajinovic seems to have mastered Goffin especially on hard court where he has beaten the Belgian twice. Going by that record the bookies have instilled the Serbian as the clear favorite in this one and it is hard to go against.

Tip: Krajinovic to win in four sets: 10/3 (bet365)
