Eugenie Bouchard v Paula Badosa Head to Head

This will be the second time that Bouchard and Badosa will be facing off in a match, with the first having come at an ITF level competition in 2018. Badosa had won that first encounter which was also held on clay.

Bouchard Aiming for Seventh WTA Final

The last time Bouchard made the final of a WTA tournament was in March 2016 at the Malaysian Open. That tournament saw just one more edition after that while Bouchard is yet to see another final in WTA competitions since then.

Now, she has a very good chance to make it to her seventh final overall on the WTA circuit, and probably even go beyond to double her tally count. And why we reckon Bouchard has that opportunity is not just because she is playing someone ranked 94th in the world but also because of the manner in which she played all week.

In her semifinal against Danka Kovinic, Bouchard needed three sets and a little over three hours to get through, but more vitally came through despite suffering from what looked like a shoulder issue.

And it’s this fighting quality which has come to the fore time and again in this tournament, a side of her game which hasn’t always been the most prominent. Having qualified to make the main draw, Bouchard had needed three sets in the previous round as well, having shocked the top seeded Svetlanad Kuznetsova.

The biggest question now for Bouchard is if she can overcome the stiffness from these back to back three-setters and make the final.

Badosa Shocks Third Seed

Badosa had seen a straightforward run through to the quarterfinal when she defeated Katarina Zavatska and Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets in the first two rounds of this Istanbul Cup.

When she lost the opening set of her quarterfinal to the third seeded Polona Hercog, however, it looked like the 94th-ranked Badosa’s time in the tournament was coming to an end.

The Spaniard fought back, winning in three sets, registering her third win in as many matches on clay this year and giving herself a chance to make it to her first ever WTA final.

The former junior’s French Open singles champion, having won the 2015 edition beating Anna Kalinskaya, will be comfortable playing on this surface, and wouldn’t be as exhausted as Bouchard either.

If Badosa can get quickly off the blocks, she could make it very difficult for Bouchard.

Bouchard v Badosa Prediction & Tip

While Bouchard is a favourite one needs to be wary of her fitness holding up, especially if Badosa can get a move on early. We are looking at Badosa to win a set at the very least.

Tip: Badosa to win a set: Yes: 1/2 (bet365)
