Petra Kvitova v Oceane Dodin Head to Head

There is no previous head to head history between the 11th-ranked Kvitova and the world number 118 Dodin.

Kvitova Will Hope to Improve on French Open Record

While Kvitova has made it to the semifinals of the French Open once before this, her record since 2012 has been underwhelming for a former world number one and two-time Grand Slam winner. The Czech has made the fourth round at Roland-Garros just once, losing to Time Basinszky in three sets there.

Make no mistake about Kvitova’s record on clay. It’s not as underwhelming as some of her counterparts who are proficient on one surface but generally struggle on the other – a two-time Wimbledon winner and a finalist at the Australian Open, Kvitova has also won five of her titles on tour on red dirt.

This includes a tournament win at the Stuttgart Open last year where she defeated Anett Kontaveit in the final.

Kvitova’s trouble is she hasn’t played a lot of tennis since sports took a back-seat in wake of the pandemic, losing her opening round match at the Cincinnati Open and then falling to Shelby Rogers in the fourth round of the US Open.

With no matches played on clay despite a plethora of tournaments to choose from, Kvitova looks primed for an early exit but she still starts a favourite against a player who has currently fallen off the rails on court.

Dodin Looking for a Turnaround

Other than the Wimbledon, Dodin has made it to the second round at all the other Grand Slam competitions but that’s the best she has done so far. This includes her poor record at the French Open where she featured in six editions but one just one main draw match.

Making things further worse for the French player is her record this year hasn’t been one to rave. Sure, she has won a few matches in the main draw of competitions like the St. Petersburg Open, where as a qualifier she made the quarterfinal, and the Lyon Open where, aided by a walkover from Jil Teichmman, she entered the last eight too, but in more recent times her results have dried up.

A second round on the clays of Palermo has been her best showing, which was followed by a qualifying defeat at Prague, and first round losses at the Cincinnati Open and US Open.

Dodin then opted to play on the ITF circuit to get some serious practice under her belt coming into this match and while she won a couple of matches in two tournaments, an injury-related retirement from her match last week will put question-marks over her showing here.

Kvitova v Dodin Prediction and Tip

It shouldn’t be too difficult for Kvitova to get moving here, and notch up an easy first round win. A straight-set victory looks likely.

Tip: Kvitova to win in straight sets: 4/5 (bet365)
