Dominik Koepfer v Antoine Hoang Head to Head

Koepfer and Hoang have never played each other before this in a competitive match.

Koepfer Climbing up the Charts After Rome Exploits

In 2016, Koepfer’s season-low rank on the ATP charts was 1825. It wasn’t like he was a teenager at that time either, aged 22 he was looking for a breakthrough season at the Futures circuit.

Every year, Koepfer has moved up the charts, finishing the previous season ranked for the first time in the top 100 and this was thanks to his performance at the US Open where he reached the fourth round. A direct entry at the Australian Open and US Open this year didn’t help too much as he crashed out in the first round at both, but that hasn’t stopped him from improving that ranking even further.

And it was all thanks to the Rome Masters, where Koepfer, as a qualifier – he won three matches to get to the main draw – defeated Alex de Minaur, Gael Monfils and teenage sensation Lorenzo Musetti to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Interestingly he had never played a main draw match at a Masters competition before that. The result? A career-best, world ranking of 66th.

Hoang in His Third Main Draw Match of the Year

24-year-old Frenchman Hoang first played in the main draw of an ATP competition two years ago and won his maiden ATP match only last year in Montepellier. This season, he participated in the main draws of two tournaments, the Pune Open and the Marseille Open, and both times, lost in the first round.

Hoang has shown an early incline towards doubles play too. While his performances in singles matches at ATP tournaments have been nothing to write home about, Hoang has already made it to the final of a doubles competition – it came at the 2019 Lyon Open.

At the lower circuit, Hoang has won four titles, but what’s been interesting to see is how his performances have changed. Eight of his first nine lower-circuit finals came on clay while over the last seven occasions there has been no tournament on red dirt.

All in all, Hoang will be pleased he is in the first round of his home Grand Slam, against a player who isn’t even seeded but given the form Koepfer has going for him, it could be as straightforward as they come for him.

Koepfer v Hoang Prediction and Tip

Koepfer is 2/7 to win this but can he do it in straight sets? Bet365 are offering 11/8 for that, which is slightly on the shorter side. We think Hoang might just win a set here.

Tip: Koepfer to Win AND Both Player to Win a Set: 6/4 (bet365)
