Giorgi is currently the highest-ranked Italian player, and boasts two senior WTA titles to her name, winning the Rosmalen Championships in 2015, and the Linz Open three years later.

She has also been in several other finals, the most recent of which was the Bronx Open last August, when she was beaten by the Pole Magda Linette. None of these finals was on clay – unusually for an Italian player, she prefers hard courts and grass, although she did win two clay court events in her junior days.

Her best results in Grand Slams have tended to come at Wimbledon. It was there she made her WTA main tour debut in 2011, and then went on to reach the fourth round there a year later. In 2016, she then reached the quarter-final at the All-England Club, eventually lose to Eugenie Bouchard.

Giorgi’s best result in Paris was a third round appearance in 2018, but she was absent last year because she decided to give the whole European clay court season a miss.

She spends the majority of her time on the junior ITF tour where she has made 16 finals, all of them on clay, with her most recent victory coming on home soil in Pula, Italy last September.

Trevisan has won a senior WTA title in doubles since lockdown, partnering her countrywoman Elisabetta Cocciaretto to win the Palermo Open in July.
