Jan-Lennard Struff v Daniel Altmaier Head to Head

It will be the first meeting between the 30-year-old Struff and his 22-year-old compatriot.

Struff Sees Off Tiafoe

World No. 32 Jan-Lennard Struff registered his first win on clay in 2020, after he defeated the United States’ Frances Tiafoe in an up-and-down first round battle at Roland Garros.

The German struck 23 aces, hit 69 winners and converted 6 of 15 break point chances to win the four hour contest 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3.

The 6’4” Struff, who produced his best Grand Slam performance at Roland Garros last year, when he reached the fourth round before being beaten by Novak Djokovic, improved to a 13-9 singles record this year.

However, the win over Tiafoe was Struff’s first on clay this year, as the German was knocked out of the first rounds of the Italian and German Opens.

Yet to win a singles title at the ATP level, Struff reached the quarterfinals in Dubai and the Cincinnati Open this year before being beaten by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Djokovic respectively. The latter has been a major obstacle between Struff and progress this year, as the Serb had also beaten the German in the first round of the Australian Open and the third round of the U.S. Open this year. And the two could meet once again in Paris but not before the quarterfinals.

Struff, however, won’t be looking that far ahead, as he plays a tricky opponent in the next round, who has had a solid one week in Paris.

Altmaier Stuns Feliciano Lopez

Playing his first-ever main draw match at a Grand Slam, World No. 186 Daniel Altmaier stunned World No. 57 Feliciano Lopez in the first round of the French Open on Monday.

Altmaier, who entered the main draw after winning all three of his qualifying rounds in Paris, took 2 hours and 38 minutes to beat the 39-year-old Spaniard, who was in the main draw of a grand slam for the 74th consecutive time.

Dominating the contest against the left-handed Lopez, Altmaier won 7-6 (7-1), 6-4, 6-4. The right handed German won a total of 126 points, which included 10 aces and 41 winners. He converted 5 of 15 break point opportunities and made just 29 unforced errors compared to his opponent’s 40.

Struff v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

Given Struff’s experience he will be the favourite to win the contest, but Altmaier has won four on the trot this week and would pose a challenge. Expect a tight contest with Struff edging out Altmaier in five.

Tip: Struff to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/4 (bet365)
