Shuai Zhang v Clara Burel Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between the two players in two weeks. They met a few days ago in Strasbourg where the Chinese player won in straight sets.

31-year-old, Zhang is looking more and more confident with each passing match in Paris. She had a difficult start after the season resumed with consecutive opening-round exits from the Cincinnati Open, US Open and Rome.
But in Strasbourg last week, she played much better on her way to a quarter-final. And this week she has beaten two very tough opponents in Madison Keys and Alize Cornet in straight sets to move to the third round.
Even though her next round opponent is unlikely to pose a big challenge to Zhang, she will have to improve her serve a lot if she wants to go deep in the second week.
In her second round match against Cornet, she was broken six times in two sets and failed to take set points in the second set. The set went to tie break where the Chinese player eventually won but against stronger opponents she won’t get such second chances.
By moving to the third round she has already achieved her best-ever showing in Paris. She is likely to be close to her best ever ranking of 23 when the next rankings come out.

Will Burel Cause a Hat Trick of Upsets?
The 19-year-old French qualifier has already caused two upsets this week. She beat world number 67 Arantxa Rus in a hard-fought three-set match in the first round.
And followed it up with another win, this time in straight sets over world number 103, Kaja Juvan. And with each passing set, her game seems to have improved during these two encounters. In the first match, Burel lost the first set narrowly but came back to win the remaining two sets.
And in the second round against Juvan, she won the first set in a tie break before breaking her opponent thrice in the second. The Frenchwoman has already risen by over 400 ranking spots this year. And with her third-round showing here, she will surely gain a significant jump from her current ranking of 357.
The 19-year-old will be eager to avenge the loss she suffered on the hands of Zhang a few days ago. It will be interesting to see if she can continue her high energy game or not.

Despite the French teenager’s exploits this week, Zhang should go through comfortably. The Chinese woman looked a class apart when the two met a few days ago and the gulf in class is too vast for Burel to close.
