Magda Linette v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between Sorribes Tormo and Linette with the Spaniard having won both the previous ones.  The first came at the Bogota Open in 2017 on clay while the second victory was at the Wuhan Open in 2018 on hard court. This will be the first time they will be facing off indoors on hard court.

Linette’s Run into Poor Form

Not so long ago, before the pandemic break, Linette was celebrating a WTA title win at Hua Hin. Soon after, she was knocked out in the first round at the Qatar Open and not too long after tennis was suspended because of the pandemic.

Since returning back to the sport, Linette hasn’t done too much of note. A third round at the US Open has been her best showing, which consisted of a couple of relatively unconvincing wins before a straightforward loss to Anett Kontaveit.

Second round losses at the Lexington Open, Italian Open and Strabourg Open and an opening loss at the Cincinnati Open and French Open have meant her win-loss record for the year has been 14-10 and that’s despite the Hua Hin win.

And having not played indoors in about two years and with a record of 5-5 over the three seasons before that on indoor hard court, it remains to be seen if the Polish player can turn things around for herself.

Sorribes Tormo Eases Through the Qualifiers

The Spaniard has won eight lower level tournaments in her career so far, of which seven have come on clay. Her record on hard court surfaces this year has been 2-7 in main draws with both those victories coming in the opening round of Grand Slam competitions.

Which is why when she eased through to the main draw of this competition following a couple of straight set wins – against Ana Bogdan and Anna Blinkova – she would have been chuffed.

Add these couple of indoor court qualifying victories to go with three clay court titles, and Sorribes Tormo will have some amount of confidence coming into this opening round match.

Especially against a player who has been slightly low on the same factor.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
