Kecmanovic Stunned by Norrie Last Week

While Kecmanovic was a surprising early ouster in Rome and Paris on clay, he looked to have turned things around here at Cologne. He romped to a 6-3, 7-6 win over Mikhail Kukushkin in the opener in that tournament and playing Cameron Norrie, the Serb started off as a heavy favourite at 3/5.

Kecmanovic made a slow start to that match against Norrie, but he seemed to have turned things around by levelling the match at a set apiece. That, however, didn’t quite materialise the way he would have wanted as he fell away in the third set, losing 7-5, 6-7, 6-3 to the Brit.

The world number 41 is currently two places away from his career-best and while he has lost three of the previous four matches he’s played, Kecmanovic does have a couple of solid showings to take inspiration from. At Kitzbuhel he went on to win the title, while in the indoor hard courts of New York he went on to make it to the semifinal.

He starts off against an out of form lucky loser.

Nagal Has Had a Forgettable Year

Nagal was expected to continue from where he left off last year as he shot to fame at the US Open with a solid showing against Roger Federer. Unfortunately for him – like many others – this year has been bit of a disappointment.

Other than winning a round at the US Open, and a reasonable showing at the Prague Challenger where he made it to the quarterfinals, the results haven’t quite gone his way.

At the Sardinia Open last week, for instance, he made the main draw easily but lost in the first round. Here, playing in Cologne indoors, he fell in the second round of the qualifiers but has made it through following player withdrawals.

What’s interesting to note here is Nagal had played just four matches indoors before this tournament, including three last year. His overall career win-loss record on this surface is 2-4, reducing his chances of going through in this match drastically.

Kecmanovic v Nagal Prediction and Tip

It’s 1/6 for a Kecmanovic win and that should come as no surprise here. Kecmanovic is 1/2 to win it in straight sets while it’s 8/11 for under 20.5 games in the match. Take your pick from one of them depending on your risk appetite.

Tip: Kecmanovic to win in straight sets: 1/2 (bet365)
