Alexander Bublik v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
The pair have once before in the first round of the St. Petersburg Open two weeks ago. Bublik came from behind to win that match in three sets.

Bublik has not been in the best of form lately – only at the Hamburg Open did he manage to get as far as the third-round where his run was ended by Christian Garin of Chile.
From there he went to the French Open where he pulled off a big surprise in the first round, knocking out the number 8 seed and local favourite Gael Monfils. However, he could not replicate that level of performance in the second round, and was beaten by the Italian clay court specialist Lorenzo Sonego.
After being McDonald in the first round in St. Petersburg he came up against Milos Raonic, and the Canadian proved just too strong for him. Bublik could not get near his serve, whilst his own proved fallible, and the match lasted just an hour and seven minutes.

McDonald, an American Outsider Aiming to Surprise
McDonald entered into this tournament by courtesy of his protected ranking.
The winner of four tournament on the ITF Futures tour, McDonald’s best ever performance in the senior ranks came at Wimbledon in 2018 when he reached the fourth-round.
Sadly, for him, there have been few signs of such form recently, although he did get to the second round at the French Open only to be thrashed by Rafael Nadal, although there was no disgrace in that.
Since losing to Bublik in St. Petersburg he entered the Challenger event in Istanbul, where he first beat Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia and then Nino Serdanovic of Croatia. However, he then lost to the world 167 Martin Klizan of Slovakia, in a match which saw both men struggle to hold serve, but Klizan make the fewer errors.
