Miomir Kecmanović v John Millman Head to Head

This will be the second tour meeting between the two players.

John Millman won their only previous meeting. That win came in the Hungarian Open in April last year, with Millman taking the match in straight sets. Additionally, that match was on a clay court.

Kecmanović’s Struggles Post Kitzbühel Win

After winning his maiden ATP title, the Austrian Open Kitzbühel, the 21-year-old Serb has been on a disastrous run of form. He’s lost four of his last six matches, which has resulted in two first-round eliminations and three second-round ousters—however, he had also received a first-round bye in the recently completed Astana Open.

Though he’d won Kitzbühel on a clay surface, his following tournaments in Paris and Rome on clay began this disastrous run of form. A change in the surface would have been thought to help him, but his woes seem to have persisted beyond that.

Even some of his more recent wins have seen him struggle. In Cologne against India’s Sumit Nagal, he’d entered as a 1/6 favorite, but had to scrape a nervy win in the end.

And in his recent defeats, he has been totally outclassed. Having entered Astana as the second seed, he was eliminated by 64th ranked Frances Tiafoe, who completed the Serbian Job in an hour and twenty minutes.

The American rescued 75% of the break points that he faced, and Kecmanović’s seven double faults in that match showed just how disoriented his current state of mind and form is.

Now up against a newly crowned title winner, he’ll need to resurrect that Kitzbühel-winning form if he hopes to get anything from this.

Millman A Newly-Crowned Title Winner

Millman will come into this tournament in good spirits after winning his maiden ATP title. He defeated Adrian Mannarino in straight sets in Nur-Sultan, curtailing a string of two previous losses in finals. Additionally, he improved his head to head with Mannarino to 3-0.

He was marvelous in his win. He took the decisive first set after breaking Mannarino in the set’s last game, before controlling the second set which he ended up winning 6-1.

He also rescued all six of the break points that he faced, converted 50% of his own break points, and deftly controlled the play from the baseline, as he had done in a majority of the rallies leading up to the Astana Open final.

Such spirits should be expected to rub off in this tournament as well. And up against someone struggling with both form and morale, it could end up being the decisive edge.

Kecmanović v Millman Prediction and Tip

The players are both evenly ranked by the bookies, with Kecmanović just slightly carrying the favorites tag despite his form. Millman might be weary from his exploits in Kazakhstan, but I would still anticipate a great showing from him.

Even though they may have contrasting forms, a tight clash seems most likely on the cards. This match, therefore, may require more than two sets.

Tip: Match to have three sets: 5/4 (bet365)
