Andrey Rublev v Radu Albot Head to Head

Things have changed dramatically since these two last played – in fact played twice. Albot won both those encounters, in 2015 in a Challenger and in 2016 in a tournament indoors in Memphis.

The Rublev Juggernaut to Continue

As juggernauts go, Rublev looks to be in the middle of one that’s crushing everyone in sight. When he lifted the Vienna Open title last week, it made it his fifth title for the season and third in about 40 days, and third in the four tournaments he played in that period.

He is 19-1 on win-loss in that period, with his only loss coming in the quarterfinal of the French Open, while having also made it to the quarterfinal of the US Open.

Such has been the power of his shot-making in recent times, one of the most searched terms on this website over the past 10 days or has been Andrey Rublev’s racquet! Seriously!

With the ATP Finals up next, Rublev wouldn’t want to let go of the form he has found for himself, wouldn’t want any form of complacency to set in.

He could be tested too later in the tournament, with Alexander Zverev an expected opponent in the quarterfinal, Rafael Nadal in the semis and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, which is also why Rublev woul want to keep pushing the envelope and knocking out opponents like Albot in a jiffy.

Fighting Albot Shocks Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz was a heavy favourite to win his opening round match against Radu Albot, so much so we had backed him to clinch a straight-setter against the lucky loser.

Instead, Albot, who had earlier been knocked out in the second round of the qualifiers, came back from a break down in the final set to surprise his Polish opponent in three sets. He won 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-4 to move into the second round.

The first set went on serve till the 10th game before Albot shocked his opponent with a break and then served out the set. In the second, Hurkacz got the early break of serve to signal his intentions but Albot showed his mettle by breaking back and pushing the set into a tie-breaker.

Fortunately for the Pole, he was able to run away to a 4-0 lead because it meant despite Albot’s best fighting efforts, he had enough buffer to push the match into the third set.

In the third, however, Albot showed what he is truly made of when he fell behind 2-0 only to return and break his opponent twice and clinch it 6-4.

He would need all of that fight and more against a player breathing that much fire though.

Rublev v Albot Prediction and Tip

As odds go, this is as one-sided as it can get with Rublev starting out 1/10 to win it 1/3 to do that in straight sets. Backing the latter.

Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 1/3 (bet365)
