Alex de Minaur v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 21-year old Australian, and the Italian, who is four years older.

De Minaur Coming off Runnerup Prize at Antwerp

De Minaur travelled to France from Antwerp where he was a beaten finalist in the European Open.

And he may still be harbouring regrets how he started that match with Ugo Humbert of  France, dropping the first set for the gain of just one game, He was much more competitive in the second-set, which went to a tie-break and which he eventually lost.

Still that run in Belgium would have given him a good deal of self-belief, and he showed that in his first-round match with another Italian, Stefano Travaglia, on Monday.

It was a game dominated by serve with only two breaks in the entire match. However, one in each set was enough to get the job done for de Minaur, who saved all three points against his own serve.

Sonego Second in Vienna

Like his opponent, Sonego comes into this match in good form, having reached the final in Vienna only to lose to Andrey Rublev. Along the way he enjoyed the best win of his career when he beat the world number one, Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the quarter-finals.

And he seems to have carried that level of confidence with him into Paris, enjoying a comfortable win over Alexander Bublik in the first-round on Tuesday, in a match that took just an hour.

He started well, breaking the serve of the man from Kazakhstan twice to wrap-up the first set with the minimum of fuss.

Sonego dropped his own serve early in the second set, but then reasserted control with two breaks of his own to book his place against de Minaur.

De Minaur v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Although both these men come into this match in good form, de Minaur will start the favourite to win given his preference for this surface. It might be a tight match though, and the Australian cannot expect to have things all his own way.

Tip: De Minaur to win: 1/2 (bet365)
