Diego Schwartzman v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

This will be the fourth tour meeting between the two players.

Richard Gasquet brings a perfect head-to-head record, having won all of their three previous meetings. He did so in the 2019 Cincinnati Masters on a hard court, in the 2018 Monte-Carlo Masters on a clay court, and in the 2016 Antwerp Open on an indoor hard court.

Additionally, all of these have been straight-sets wins.

Schwartzman Hoping To Clinch Final London Spot

Argentine Diego Schwartzman will be looking to qualify for his first-ever ATP finals. He currently sits ninth on the leaderboard, which is the last position due to Roger Federer’s knee surgery rehabilitation.

He’ll guarantee a spot in London if he reaches the final of this competition, or, failing to do that, if his closest competitors such as David Goffin and Matteo Berrettini fail to win the title.

He comes into the tournament with some great form, which, in addition to his seeded ranking, gave him a bye into the tournament’s second round.

He most recently reached his third final of the year in Cologne, and also achieved his best berth at a Grand Slam by reaching the French Open semi-final. He was defeated by eventual winner Rafael Nadal but should have still been lifted by his exploits in Paris then.

In addition to his recent Cologne Open final, he reached earlier finals in the Italian Open and in Cordoba, but lost all three of those, giving him a career record of 3-7 in finals.

And although he’s never won a set against his second-round opponent, he can be buoyed by the fact that he’s only suffered immediate elimination in a tournament once throughout the whole year.

Gasquet Wins First In Five

31-time ATP finalist Richard Gasquet won his first match in five attempts. The stalwart had lost his last four matches, which gave him early elimination in Antwerp, Paris, New York, and St. Petersburg, but he was good value for his win against American Taylor Harry Fritz.

29th-ranked Fritz had come into the match as the favorite, but Gasquet immediately stunned the American, breaking him thrice in the first set to win it convincingly 6-0. The American recovered in the second set, rescuing an early break point which proved crucial when he broke Gasquet in the set’s penultimate game.

The third set was Gasquet’s for the taking. He rescued three early break points and broke the American mid-set which proved pivotal in guaranteeing him the match.

The 15-time title winner will now face a familiar opponent that he hasn’t given up a set to, but that seems as though it may change on Wednesday. His form has been more than mixed, which has seen him finish in the second round or lower in five of his seven tournaments this year, and he hasn’t made it past a tournament’s second round post the Covid-19 break.

Schwartzman v Gasquet Prediction And Tip

Though the Argentine might be coming up against a player that he often struggles against, this time it looks set to change. He has massively improved in the last two years on hard and indoor hard courts and should be ready to challenge Gasquet’s single-handed backhand. Therefore, expect for him to be great value against the Frenchman.

Tip: Schwartzman to win: 4/9 (bet365)
