This will be the fourth meeting between both players. Zverev leads the head-to-head 3-0, with the most recent meeting being his victory in four sets at the Australian Open quarter-finals.

Zverev Winning Run Continues

It has been an interesting return to tennis for Zverev after the Covid-19 hiatus ranging from a good run at the US Open where he lost the final by inches, to back-to-back titles at Cologne, to off court drama in recent weeks in his personal life.

He seems to have managed to separate the on-court and off-court worlds, perhaps well guided by coach David Ferrer as he has had a good run this week. Starting off with a convincing win against Miomir Kecmanovic, the German was pushed by the uncanny Adrian Mannarino in his third round encounter.  After winning the first set 13-11 in the tie-break, he was pushed again by Mannarino and despite having match points, Zverev was unable to convert them. Mannarino won the breaker 9-7 and took the match into a decider.

Evidencing the ability to keep a cool head in the latter stages more and more, Zverev ensured he kept ahead in the decider with the useful break of serve and put up a clinical display to win the set 6-4 and make the final eight with an eye on another title this weekend, amidst some challenging competition, with Rafa Nadal among others in the fray.

Wawrinka On a High After Rublev Win

Stan Wawrinka has admitted that he is approaching the end of his career, but wants to keep the level as high as he can for as long as he can. Its been an on and off season and year for him. He seems to be able to put up the excellent displays against the best in business, but then unable to maintain the level for too long repeatedly.

Wawrinka came into his match against the red-hot Rublev with wins against Dan Evans and Tommy Paul. None of the wins came easily and the win against Paul took a lot out of him, it felt. Rublev has been in the form of his life and looked like running away with a quick first set win 6-1. Wawrinka picked up the level serving well and hitting those monstrous groundstrokes to clinch the next 6-4. While he seemed tired at the beginning of the third, he upped the level when needed and Rublev seemed ready for a rest break by the end of it, as the Swiss clinched it 6-3.

Into the final eight and as the competition only gets tougher, Wawrinka will be looking to the form that won him three Grand Slams, to help him make a deep run here this weekend.

Zverev v Wawrinka Prediction And Tip

Despite any and all off-court issues of late, Zverev has been in good touch in recent weeks and on the back of his wins at Cologne has looked good this week as well. On the other hand, Wawrinka has had a good run this week, but maybe running on empty after the big Rublev win. A tight contest with the German winning in a decider.

Tip: Zverev to win in 3 sets:  3/1 (bet365)
