Jannik Sinner v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

There has been only one match played between these two players before this and Fucsovics had won that one. It came in the second round of the Australian Open earlier this year where Fucsovics defeated Sinner in straight sets in his run to the fourth round of the tournament.

Sinner Returns after Vienna Withdrawal

Sinner is just 19 but has already caught the eye of many an expert including Novak Djokovic who recently predicted he is a future world number one. And his recent performances have been much to admire with the teenager making it to the quarterfinal at the French Open and semifinal at the Cologne Open after that.

And it looked like we might have gotten ourselves a taste of what was to come when Sinner locked horns with Andrey Rublev in the second round of the Vienna Open. Rublev, along with Djokovic, have arguably been two of the best players on tour this season and it would have been interesting to watch Sinner take him on.

Much like Sinner had taken on Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rome and Alexander Zverev at the French Open and won.

Unfortunately for Sinner, a foot injury just three games into his match against Rublev put paid to his chances as he had to retire from the encounter.

Sinner now has a chance to shrug that off and add to his Next Gen title he had won last year, starting out as one of the tournament favourites.

Fucsovics Yet to Win Indoors

The Hungarian has featured in four tournaments indoors this season including two before the pandemic struck and two in the lead-up to this one in Sofia but is yet to win a main draw match.

At the Rotterdam Open he won his qualifier to make it to the main draw but lost to Roberto Bautista-Agut, before falling to Alexander Bublik in the first round at Marseille a week or so later.

More recently, he was a the receiving end of a 6-3, 6-0 pounding at the hands of Gilles Simon, before making it through to the main draw at the Paris Masters but losing to Borna Coric.

Make no mistake, Fucsovics has a reasonable record on hard-court surfaces this year, having made the fourth round of the Australian Open and third round of the US Open. Somehow, however, he hasn’t been able to translate that into solid showings indoors and against a player rated so highly he will start out as an underdog.

Sinner v Fucsovics Prediction And Tip

While Sinner is a solid favourite here, there’s a good chance Fucsovics will be able to test him out and push the match into a third. Expecting the Hungarian to win a set here.

Tip: Fucsovics to win a set – Yes: 4/6 (bet365)
