Jannik Sinner v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

Their only previous match came at the ATP Next Gen Final of 2019. It was the final of the tournament, and Sinner was a straight-set winner over de Minaur – with the caveat the match was played to the Fast4 Format.

Sinner Continues Rampaging Form

It might not have been a facile win as some might have expected Sinner to register against a player ranked outside the top 100 but Sinner did what was expected out of him. He registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Marc-Andre Huesler in his second round match to make it to the last eight.

Sinner needed one break of serve in both sets, in the eighth game of the first and seventh of the second, to achieve a clinical result in the end with the match lasting a mere hour and 18 minutes.

This came on the back of a 6-2, 6-4 victory for Sinner in his opening round match over Marton Fucsovics as well.

As far as performances indoors is concerned, Sinner doesn’t look like the kind of player who has had too many issues on it. At least his record doesn’t seem to suggest that. Last year, for instance, Sinner featured in a plethora of Futures and Challengers competitions indoors and finished with a record of 31 wins and seven defeats.

This year he has taken the step up to play at the ATP level and is 10-6.

Difficult Straight-Set Win for de Minaur

Coming into his second round match against Aslan Karatsev following a first round bye, de Minaur did not have it easy at all. He won 6-4, 7-6 but the result could have gone the other way or we could have at least seen a three-setter in this one.

De Minaur made a solid start though, breaking his Russian opponent to love in the very first game of the match. He had a chance to go double-break up in the third game but he missed two break-points. And while he faced a break-point of his own, there was no stopping him from winning the set.

Karatsev had showed, however, he could compete and in the second set he tried to make early inroads himself. The Russian got himself a couple of break-points in the second game, and then finally broke in the sixth game to go 4-2 up.

The Aussie broke him back. This sequence continued in the next two games too, with Karatsev missing a chance to serve out the set and then went to lose a tight tie-breaker.

Coming into this tournament, the world number 25 had made it to the third round of the Paris Masters before losing to Daniil Medvedev and was the finalist at the European Open before that – both indoors.

Sinner v de Minaur Prediction and Tip

De Minaur is 11/10 to win this and we think he has the form and the confidence to edge the contest here. He will be our pick to go the distance too.

Tip: De Minaur to win: 11/10 (bet365)
