Jannik Sinner v Vasek Pospisil Head to Head

The two have never faced each other in a competitive match before. This will be the first-ever encounter between them.

Young Sinner Wins Again

19-year-old Jannik Sinner overcame fifth-seeded Adrian Mannarino in straight sets to become the first player born in 2001 to reach an ATP final, and also became the youngest ATP finalist from Italy in the Open era.

He came in as a 1/5 favorite, and despite his opponent being higher ranked and seeded, the Italian proved his favorites’ tag throughout the match.

Two break points were all he needed to take the match. He converted one in the first set to clinch it 6-3, and a late one in the second set in between a nine-point run helped him avoid a tie-break and win the set 7-5.

In addition to his 100% break point conversion rate, he also rescued all three break points that Mannarino got.

He’s performed relatively well in this tournament, having conceded only one set so far in all of his matches, which came against a seeded Alex de Minaur.

In addition to this, he’s been in great form, having recently got to the Cologne Open semi-final where he only lost to eventual winner Alexander Zverev, and he also got to the quarter-finals in the French Open where a title-worthy Rafael Nadal ended his best-ever Grand Slam run.

Up against Pospisil, he’ll rightfully come into the tie as the favorite and should be expected to earn his maiden title.

Pospisil Comes Back Against Gasquet

After dispatching back to back seeds in straight sets, Pospisil needed to stage a comeback against his semi-final opponent, Richard Gasquet.

The first set went with serve until the tie-break, although Pospisil failed to capitalize on the sole break point in that set. Gasquet took the tie-break to go 1-0 up.

The second and third set, however, proved to be the Canadian’s territory. He was untouchable, as he capitalized on 2/3 of his break points in the second set, and rescued the sole break point that Gasquet got in that set to round it off 6-2.

And the third set was invincible territory for Pospisil. He converted all three of his break points and won 24 points to Gasquet’s nine, which won him the set 6-0.

Additionally, his strong serve throughout the match helped him notch 17 aces in total.

He now walks into his second final of the year— the third in his career— and at 30-years-old, is still chasing his maiden ATP title.

Sinner v Pospisil Prediction and Tip

For two players chasing their first titles, Sinner is the one heavily favored in this one. It feels like the opportune moment for the youngster to finally win his maiden title.

His great fluid and athletic movement, in addition to his heavy backhand, are key assets that may prove to be enough against an in-and-out-of-form aging Pospisil. Therefore, back the young Italian in this clash.

Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
