Three-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan is coming off a decent 2020, having reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open and the Italian Open, and finished the year with a 21-11 win-loss record.
The 25-year-old Kazakh, who won her only WTA title in Nuremberg, Germany in 2019, and finished runner-up in St Petersberg in 2017 and Guangzhou in 2018, has been a consistent performer on the tour over the last five years.
She achieved her career-best ranking of 27 in 2017, but isn’t too far away from that now, having reached 28th last season thanks to some of the results, especially at the US Open where she had managed a last eight appearance.
The right-handed baseliner prefers clay but has produced decent results on hard courts as well, will be looking to kick off the New Year on a bright note on Wednesday.

Trevisan Looking To Build on Roland Garros Exploits
Italy’s 27-year-old Martina Trevisan is coming off her best-ever season in tennis and will be looking to carry the 2020 form in 2021 as well.
The 85th-ranked Italian, who was 16-9 in all tournaments last season, stunned the world with her run to the quarterfinals of the French Open in October.
Having qualified for the main draw at Roland Garros for the first time, the left-hander made quite an impression as she defeated top players in Coco Gauff, Maria Sakkari and Kiki Bertens on her way to the last eight, where she was beaten by Iga Swiatek.
Relatively unknown till that French Open run last year, Trevisan has nine singles titles at the ITF level, but she will be looking to produce more solid results at the top level in 2021.
The winner of the Putintseva-Trevisan match will take on either Barbora Krejcikova or Jamie Loeb in the next round.
