Jan-Lennard Struff v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head

Struff and Chardy have played each other five times, with four of those matches being played on hard courts. The big-serving German leads the series 3-2, but it is Chardy who won their last meeting at the 2019 Brisbane International.

Struff Benefits From Walkover

Jan-Lennard Struff advanced to the last eight in Antalya without breaking sweat as his scheduled second round opponent Hugo Grenier pulled out due to injury. His straight sets win over Pavel Kotov was the only match he has played to get this far.

It will be another Frenchman lurking in the shape of Jeremy Chardy, who Struff leads in their head-to-head.

The 30-year-old Struff had mixed results on tour in 2020. He was ranked as high as World No.29 last August when he made the last eight of the Cincinnati Masters and the third round of the US Open, losing both times to Novak Djokovic.

However, his form dipped since leaving the New York bubble. He won only three matches across eight tournaments and had a year-end ranking of No.37. But with a clean slate in this embryonic tennis season, Struff will be hoping to serve his way out trouble against a familiar opponent.

Chardy Edges Fognini In Thriller

In one of the longest matches of this opening week of the new tennis season, Jeremy Chardy and Fabio Fognini played for nearly three hours, before the Frenchman held his nerve to win in three tiebreak sets.

Chardy had the opportunity to serve for the match at 5-4 in the second set, but squandered it. He would then break Fognini at 6-5 in the third set to stay in the match. He converted his very first match point to pick up only his second career win in seven meetings over the enigmatic Italian.

It is the first time the French veteran has made the last eight of an ATP event since the Kremlin Cup in 2019. He played a limited schedule last year, seven tournaments to be precise, and recorded a meagre two match wins all year.

The 343-year-old recently admitted his disapproval on the preferential treatment that the top players will receive while on quarantine at the Australian Open. For now though, his sole focus will be on a huge encounter will so much at stake in the quarterfinals of an ATP tournament.

Can he go all the way in his debut appearance at the Antalya Open?

Struff v Chardy Prediction and Tip

Struff and Chardy have had some bruising battles in their series. Of their five meetings, only once did the match not go the distance. Both players will pin each other on the baseline and we expect another long battle. Given it is still early in the season, Chardy’s near three-hour victory over Fognini shouldn’t cause any fitness concerns.

Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
