David Goffin v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between both players, with Goffin having won their only meeting at the 2019 Davis Cup, in straight sets.

Goffin Recovers Well After Initial Round Blip

Belgian David Goffin has had an up and down last few seasons. Once ranked as high as number seven,  injuries and poor form came in the way, but Goffin has done well to move back into the top 20 in the ATP rankings.

While 2020 was a mixed season for the Belgian, the current season did not get off to the best of starts here at the Antalya Open, with Goffin saving five match points in his opener to doubles partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert before prevailing in three sets.

The number two seed looked in prime form against Spaniard Nicola Kuhn in the second round dropping only two games, setting himself up well for a good run here heading into the final stages of the tournament, and continued the same form against Italian Stefano Travaglia in the final eight. Seemingly in better touch now, the Belgian knows he will have to be off the mark quickly and play his best against the in-form De Minaur in their semi-final encounter.

Title Shot On The Cards For The Aussie

Young Aussie Alex de Minaur, aged only 21, has exhibited phenomenal promise on the tour in the last three seasons, already winning three ATP titles, and was a quarter-finalist at the US Open last season.  With the long Down Under portion of the tour beginning in the very near term, De Minaur will be pleased with his run here so far, heading into his home slam with confidence.

The Aussie has looked in excellent touch this week, dropping only seven games in his first two rounds and knows that he has the form, confidence and ability to make a title run this week. With a more difficult opponent in Nikoloz Basilasvhili in the final eight, De Minaur continued his relentless form from the earlier rounds, dropping only six games in the match.

As has been the case in the last couple seasons, De Minaur gets his season off to a good start with renewed energy and that seems to be the case here again. Running on a high, he will now be looking to add to his ATP title count this week here at the Antalya Open.

Goffin v De Minaur Prediction and Tip

A well matched contest awaits, with both players looking solid in recent rounds. While Goffin has recovered well after the opener, De Minaur has gone from strength to strength and looked assured. It will be difficult for the more experienced Goffin to stop the Aussie on current form.

Expect De Minaur to win in two close sets.

Tip: De Minaur to win in straight sets: 6/4 (bet365)
