Daria Kasatkina v Mihaela Buzamescu Head to Head

.The pair have met once before in the round of 32 in San Jose in 2019. Kasatkina won that match in straight sets, dropping just four games in the process.

Kasatkina Looking to Rediscover Form

Winner of the 2014 Junior French Open title, big things were expected of Kasatkina when she followed that up with 2 WTA tournament successes. At one time she was ranked as high as ten in the world, but those days seem a distant memory after several years of indifferent form.

She began her preparations for Australia in Abu Dhabi, where she had an encouraging win over Qiang Wang of China in the first round, a player ranked some 37 places above her in the rankings.

Kasatkina then benefitted from a second round bye before taking her place in the third round against Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan. It was a game dominated by serve and, in the end, Rybakina’s proved to be the stronger.

Buzamescu, an Australian Open Qualifier

Although a pro since 2004, it took Buzamescu a long time to enjoy success, enjoying a golden year in 2018. That was when she won the Premier event, the Beach of the West Coast Classic, having also reached the finals in Hobart and Prague that same year.

At one stage she was ranked as high as 20th in the world, but her form has dipped dramatically since, and she is now well outside the top 100.

That means she did not qualify for the main draw of the Australian Open by right; instead, she had to enter the qualifying competition in the Middle East.

Her passage was easy enough initially – a straight sets win over Lara Arruabarrena-Vecu of Spain,  But then it became more difficult as she needed three sets to get past Claire Liu of the United States, and three sets again to see off the challenge of another American Whitney Osuigwe. The good news is she is there and will look to take that confidence into this encounter.

Kasatkina v Buzamescu Prediction and Tip

Based on their world rankings and their one previous meeting to date Kasatkina is the clear favourite to win this match, and should wrap things up in straight sets.

Tip: Kasatkina to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
