Feliciano Lopez v Kevin Anderson Head to Head

This will be the fifth meeting between the two players. Anderson has won all four of their previous encounters, though the players have not met since the Rome Masters in 2016.

Evergreen Lopez Eyes More Success On Tour

Feliciano Lopez made his debut in 2002  and has been an evergreen member on the tour since. Once ranked as high as number 12 in the world, he is currently ranked just outside the top 60 and although 39 years of age, he still continues to be a force, especially on the faster surfaces in both the singles and doubles versions.

The 2020 season saw him play an important role Down Under, especially in the doubles game, assisting Team Spain in getting to the finals of the inaugural ATP Cup, but falling short of defeating Serbia in the final tie.

The shortened 2020 was a mixed season for the Spanish veteran, who had plenty of round of 32 exits post pandemic, but a three set valiant battle in the second round of the Paris Masters against world number two Rafa Nadal will remain one of the highlights of his year.

As he turns 40 this year, Lopez will be aware that he nearing the end of his career, and will like to make every tournament count.

Anderson Hoping to Continue Late 2020 Resurgence

Kevin Anderson had a promising 2017-2018 that saw him make the finals at the US Open and Wimbledon, as well as attain a career high ranking of number five in the world on the ATP tour. Anderson’s remarkable comeback against Roger Federer in the 2018 Wimbledon quarter-finals down match point in the third set, to win in a marathon decider will forever be etched in tennis fans’ memories.

2019 was a year of injuries and disappointment for the South African and it was a difficult recovery, with him dropping out of the top 100 in the ATP rankings. Anderson looked at making a comeback in the pandemic-hit shortened 2020 season, but it was challenging and difficult.

After several disappointing comeback losses, Anderson finally hit firm on the faster indoor courts in Vienna where he made the semi-finals towards the end of the 2020 season, defeating Daniil Medvedev en route and losing to eventual champion Andrey Rublev.

Anderson also looked in good touch the next week in Paris, where he lost to eventual champion Medvedev. He will be hoping to carry over the confidence and form and start 2021 on a strong footing.

Lopez v Anderson Prediction and Tip

An interesting battle between two contrasting players awaits; the big serving Anderson and the defty left- hander Lopez. Expect a close battle between two aging veterans, with Anderson to use his serve and forehand to inch ahead in a three-setter.

Tip: Anderson to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
