Serena Williams v Daria Gavrilova Head to Head

Serena has a dominant record against her Monday opponent Daria Gavrilova. The legendary American has won all three meetings that they have played, and has not dropped more than four games in a set against the Aussie.

Serena Beat Osaka In Adelaide Exhibition

The past 14 days have been somewhat of a rollercoaster for Serena Williams. A mandatory two-week quarantine at a designated hotel by Tennis Australia in line with the Victoria Government was a requirement for all players jetting in to compete at next month’s Australian Open. Even the great Serena Williams was no exception.

Serena has been quick to point out she had been ticking the quarantine days off the calendar as she was confined in her room with her 3-year-old daughter. On the bright side, she admitted that she spent hours and hours with her daughter and ‘she wouldn’t trade that for anything’.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner would warm up for her first outing at the Yarra Valley Classic by visiting Australia’s touristic kangaroos and koalas in the Zoo with daughter Olympia. She was then slated to take on Naomi Osaka at the Adelaide exhibition, A Day at the Drive.

Williams’ rustiness was notable as was Osaka’s and the pair played a three-set match which the 39-year-old won in a jam-packed court of tennis fans.

Williams will begin her 2021 season with plenty of fond memories. She won her last Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 2017, and her first title after giving birth was also in January at the ASB Classic in New Zealand last season.

Gavrilova Brushed Aside Kuzmova

In just 65 minutes, Daria Gavrilova served up a ruthless display and put everyone on notice of just how much she has missed the competition.

The 26-year-old wildcard entrant brushed aside the challenge of Viktoria Kuzmova 6-2 6-0, converting five of seven break points and hit double the winners and half of unforced errors in a clinical display.

Gavrilova has not played a lot of tennis in the last 18 months after a debilitating foot injury saw her miss almost a year of action. After undergoing a series of procedures to repair the damage, she was able to walk again and play pain-free.

She marked her return to tennis at last year’s French Open, shocking Dayana Yastremska in her opening round match before falling to Eugenie Bouchard.

Gavrilova has been ranked as high as world no.20 which is a testament to her fighting qualities and abilities on a tennis court. Her ranking at the moment is on the mend after plummeting as low as outside the Top 700.

Serena v Gavrilova Prediction and Tip

Serena has an excellent record against Gavrilova and I cannot see that changing on Monday. The American’s controlled power should trump Gavrilova’s movement. The Aussie will certainly pose a difficult test for Williams which I expect her to pass with flying colors.

Tip: Serena to win: 1/3 (bet365)
