Pospisil Set For First Outing Of 2021

Vasek Pospisil will not be participating at the ATP Cup due to his low ranking, but he has made giant strides in his second coming after undergoing successful back surgery in 2019.

Pospisil now ranked at no.61 in the world, recently won the 2020 ATP Tour’s Comeback Player of the Year after vaulting from outside the top 100. He has displayed the form that propelled him to peak at a career-high ranking of world no.25 a few seasons ago.

The Vancouver right-hander won an impressive 21 matches and reached two tour-levels finals. The chase for that elusive first title goes on, but the overriding sense of his personality is that he invariably breeds optimism, and it is a matter of when and not if as far as a maiden title is concerned.

Pospisil spent the off-season training with good friend Novak Djokovic in Belgrade. But he skipped the season’s first tournament in Delray due to personal reasons. Then he was among the players subjected to hard quarantine after one of the passengers in their plane reported a positive COVID-19 case.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing, but the Canadian expects to sustain his progress on the court on his first match at Melbourne Park.

Monteiro Has A Dream To Chase In 2021

For many years, Thiago Monteiro has lived in the shadow of a few of his contemporaries. In order to prove a point he has managed to step out of it and make serious inroads on the tour-level scene.

Ranked at no.83 in the world, he is Brazil’s top ranked male player right now. He says his objectives for the new season is to win a title and get closer to the world’s top 50, something he has never managed to achieve throughout his decade-long career.

Monteiro’s 2021 campaign began in the United States, as he participated at the Delray Beach Open. His off-season preparation was short-lived due to the pandemic protocols and he was based in Rio most of the time. In Delray, he beat fellow countryman Thomaz Bellucci, before losing in straight sets to John Isner.

Pospisil v Monteiro Prediction and Tip

Monteiro’s last defeat came at the hands of a big server. Pospisil is in the same mold as Isner, but arguably with better coordination and variety in his game. The Brazilian will put up a fight, but expect the Canadian to roll.

Tip: Pospisil to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
