Rybakina Starts off as Abu Dhabi Quarterfinalist

Between July 2019 and September 2020, Rybakina made it to seven finals of WTA competitions including a couple of Premier events. And the manner in which she started out in Abu Dhabi, it might well have been her eighth final for the taking had it not been for the in-form and the eventual winner Aryna Sabalenka taking her down at that stage.

After winning three matches in a row in straight sets in that competition, Rybakina, who has been tipped to be one of the bright stars for the future, finally went down to Sabalenka in a hard-fought three-setter in that last eight encounter. To give you a context, that was the only match in which Sabalenka dropped a set that tournament.

Rybakina was one of the players stranded in a hard quarantine after arriving in Melbourne but looks to have gone about her business without much ado.

She would be a touch rusty starting out here but her form from the past season – she won her first hard court title in Australia last year and then made it to three more finals – and again in Abu Dhabi should be enough to make her a player to watch out.

Krejcikova Deals with Davis in Opener

Like her opponent in this match, Krejcikova also featured in the Abu Dhabi competition, and was ousted in the second round by Yulia Putintseva. Then after serving her quarantine, she kick-started her campaign with a three-set victory over Lauren Davis in her opening round match here.

In an encounter which could have gone either way, Krejcikova needed two hours and 25 minutes to edge out Davis, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to set up this second round meeting.

The first two sets were split evenly, with both players getting themselves three breaks of serves apiece, pushing the match into a decider. In the third, Krejcikova broke her American opponent twice only to be broken right back the next game, but it was that third break of serve in the seventh game of the set which proved to be decisive as the Czech carved out a win with back to back holds.

Things will only get tougher from here for Krejcikova who is coming off a semifinal appearance at the Linz Open late last year.

Rybakina v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Rybakina is a heavy favourite for this one, starting out at 4/9 to win and 11/10 to do that in straight sets. Go with the former for a less risky option.

Tip: Rybakina to win in straight sets: 11/10 (bet365)
