Medvedev Unbeaten Run Continues Through ATP Cup

Medvedev ended 2020 on a strong note with victories at the Paris Masters and the ATP Tour Finals In London. In Paris, the Russian was in stellar form, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final and continued his winning run at the ATP Tour Finals in London, remaining unbeaten and defeating the top three players in the world, Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal and Dominic Thiem en route.

With a strong end to 2020 behind him, the Russian arrived in Australia, looking to continue the form into the new season as his chances for success at the first major of the year look as good as anyone’s and along with Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic, is one of the favorites at Melbourne Park this year.

The Russian continued his form this week remaining unbeaten at the ATP Cup and leading Russia to the title. He has been on an unbeaten run of 14 matches since Paris and this has figured ten wins against top ten players. Medvedev was a promising candidate going into last year’s Australian Open as well,  but was outdone by Stan Wawrinka in the fourth round.

Medvedev will look to better all previous Melbourne Park performances this time around, and truly believe he has a shot at the title in two weeks from now.

Pospisil Looking To Continue Career Combeack

Canadian Vasek Pospisil returned to the tour in 2019 after a long injury related hiatus. Once ranked as high as number 25 in the ATP rankings in the middle of the last decade, it has been a difficult road back to the tour following back injuries and surgery.

After a good performance at the Davis Cup for Canada at the end of 2019, Pospisil was a finalist at Montpelier in February, securing wins against David Goffin and Denis Shapovalov. He followed it up with a quarter-final appearance at Marseille, losing to eventual champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, before the season took a break because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The return to the tour was positive with a fourth round US Open appearance, but most of the rest of the year was lacklustre for him before he ended up as runner-up at the ATP 250 in Sofia. The Canadian has not featured in any  tournaments this year thus far, pulling out of Delray Beach and the Melbourne openers due to different reasons. Although short on match practice, the Canadian plays a good allr0und game and will be looking to bring a stern challenge to Medvedev.

Medvedev v Pospisil Prediction and Tip

Medvedev has been on a run since the Paris Masters and continued that run this week at the ATP Cup. Pospisil has been on a late career comeback run, but Medvedev is playing Grand Slam winning tennis right now. Expect a straight sets win for the Russian.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 1/2 (bet365)
