Kudermetova Showing Fine Form

The 23-year-old Veronika Kudermetova has started her 2021 season a fantastic note. Following her first-round win in the Australian Open, the Russian is now 7-2 this season.

On the back of this feat, she also achieved her career-best singles ranking as World No. 36. Kudermetova’s defining run came in the WTA Abu Dhabi, where she reached the final – her first such run on the WTA singles tour.

Despite losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the final, she did beat the likes of Anett Kontaveit and Elina Svitolina to achieve this remarkable feat. However, after that solid run, the Kazan-born player appeared in the Grampians Trophy where she lost in the second round itself.

Apart from this, Kudermetova had a few defining runs last season too – she was a quarterfinalist in the WTA Ostrava and Linz Open, and also reached the semifinal in Hobart International. During her time, she also beat a handful of top 10 players like Karolina Plisova and Svitolina.

Coming to her start in Melbourne in the major, she beat talented youngster Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 7-6(5), to reach the second round. Last year, the Russian went as far as round three.

Gracheva, in her Maiden Aus Open Main Round

Gracheva, just 20 years old, defeated Anna Blinkova in the opening round of the Australian Open to reach the second round. The match went on for two hours and 45 minutes and saw the youngster fight hard to get that win.

Even though Blinkova fought well, she couldn’t do enough to beat the resilience of her compatriot. Ultimately, the matched in a win for Gracheva with 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(10). In all fairness, she could have sealed the game a lot earlier had it not been for her 43 unforced errors.

This is the first time that the young Russian has made it to the main draw here in Melbourne; last season, she fell in the final round of the qualifiers.

Gracheva last played in the Yarra Valley Classic, where she lost in the second round to Marketa Vondrousova.

That said, 2020 was a decent year for Varvara and it helped her crack the top 100. She reached the third round in the US Open and followed that with a semifinal run in an ITF event in France.

Kudermetova vs Gracheva Prediction and Tip

Veronika Kudermetova will start this match as the favourite to win. We will expect a solid fight from the 20-year-old but ultimately, the more experienced of the two should come out on top.

Tip: Kudermetova to win 2-1: 3/1 (bet365)
