Stefanos Tsitsipas v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head

Tsitsipas leads 1-0 head to head, having beaten the Italian in the first round of the Australian Open in 2019. The come-from-behind four-set win was the beginning of a dream Melbourne campaign for the Greek, who went on to reach his first major semifinal, defeating Roger Federer on the way. He eventually fell to Rafael Nadal in the final four stage.

Tsitsipas also beat Berrettini in the second qualifying round of the U.S. Open in 2017, rallying from a set down to beat the Italian in three sets.

Tsitsipas Untroubled by Ymer

Having survived an emotionally charged four-and-a-half hour second round contest against Aussie wild card Thanasi Kokkinakis, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas had it easy against good friend Michael Ymer in the third round on Saturday, defeating the Swede 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.

The 2019 ATP Finals winner, Tsitsipas hit 27 winners and made just 20 unforced errors compared to Ymer’s 36. He also converted seven of 12 break points in the match and was broken only once as he breezed past the World No. 95 in an hour and 32 minutes.

The 22-year-old, ranked sixth in the world, extended his unbeaten run in 2021 to 5-0. He had entered the first Grand Slam of the year with two wins at the ATP Cup and made a fast start as he dispatched France’s Gilles Simon 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 32 minutes in the first round.

Kokkinakis, however, gave Tsitsipas a real tough time in the second round, taking him to the fifth set before losing the roller-coaster match 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 in four hours and 32 minutes.

The 6’4” Tsitsipas, who won his fifth career title in Marseille last year, had a strong 2020 season, when he finished with a 29-14 record. Apart from winning the ATP 250 event, he also finished runner-up in Hamburg and Dubai and reached the semifinals of a major for the second time in his career before falling to Novak Djokovic in the final four clash of the French Open.

Berrettini Overcomes Pain To Beat Khachanov

Facing Tsitsipas in the fourth round will be World No. 10 Matteo Berrettini, who battled through abdominal pain to see off 19th seed Karen Khachanov in the third round on Saturday.

The Italian, who took a two-set lead, began experiencing pain late in the third set, needing a medical time-out. Once back on court, Berrettini clearly looked uncomfortable yet he induced a few errors of Khachanov to win the two-hour-and-59-minute contest 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).

The 24-year-old right-hander, playing in the third round of the Australian Open for the first time, served 18 aces and struck 48 winners to beat the World No. 20 Khachanov.

The win improved Berrettini to 8-2 in 2021. The Italian, who reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open in 2019, began the year with a run to the quarterfinals in Antalya and then led his country to the ATP Cup final, having won all three of his matches leading to the summit clash against champions Russia, who won the final 2-0.

Berrettini began the Australian Open challenge with a tough three-set win over Kevin Anderson. In the second round, Czech qualifier Tomas Machac took a set of the aggressive Italian, before he closed out the contest in two hours and 39 minutes.

Tsitsipas v Berrettini Prediction and Tip

Interesting to see if the Italian recovers in time. If Berrettini is fit he could give Tsitsipas a run for his money. However, the Greek should make it to the quarterfinals after a tough match.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in four (11/4) or five sets (11/2) (bet365)
