Teichmann Facing Third Successive Romanian Opponent

Teichmann lost her first two matches on Australian soil this year, losing to Odette Dodin in the Gipplands Trophy, and then exiting the Australian Open at the first round stage, beaten by the American teenager Coco Gauff in straight sets,

Entering this tournament, she played the world 138 Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania in what proved to be a very tough match. Teichmann lost the first set on a tie-break, and went a break down in the second, before eventually clawing her way back to level, and then go on to clinch the contest.

In the second round on Monday, she faced another Romanian, Monica Niculescu, the world 146, and she proved to be much more to her liking as an opponent. Teichmann raced into a 5-1 lead in the first set, and, although she briefly faltered by dropping her own serve, she broke again to take the set.

Two breaks of serve in the second set were enough for her to wrap-up the win in an hour and ten minutes.

Tig Beaten by Compatriot in Australian Open

Like Teichmann, Tig lost her first two matches in Melbourne, beaten in the first round in the Gippsland Trophy by Timea Babos and then losing to compatriot Sorana Mihaela Cirstea at the Australian Open in straight sets.

She stopped the rot with a win over the world 149, Lesia Tsurenko on Sunday, coming from a set down to do so.

That earned her a match with Francesca Jones of Great Britain, the world 245, on Monday.

Tig dominated the first set, breaking Jones twice and saving the one break point against her own serve, to take the set in just 30 minutes.

The British player put up more of a fight in the second set, and, despite dropping her opening service game, was able to level. However, Tig broke back immediately, and although the pair swapped serve breaks again, Tig had enough in the end to complete the job in straight sets.

Teichmann v Tig Prediction and Tip

This match is a tough one to call between two evenly-matched opponents, and could go either way.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
