Shelby Rogers v Cori Gauff Head to Head
These are two players at different ends of the spectrum as far as their careers are concerned. Rogers is trying hard to re-establish herself as a top-50 player, growing with some consistency while Gauff is a precocious teenager who has been tipped to win a Grand Slam or few as she goes along.
And more interestingly, they are ranked 53rd and 52nd respectively, having never played each other before this!

Rogers at Her Pummelling Best
It has been one consistent start to the season for Rogers, and it’s continued well into this tournament, her third of the season. It started with Rogers making it to the quarterfinals at the Yarra Valley Classic, where she lost in the third set match tie-breaker to Ash Barty, the world number one.
It was Barty who ended Rogers’ end yet again at the Australian Open, but not before the American had made it as far as the fourth round in that competition. A win over Anett Kontaveit, en route that, was another indicator of how well she had improved.
And here, at the Adelaide International, Rogers has already played and beaten two competitive and tricky opponents. First she overcame Veronika Kudermetova, who was coming into this tournament having already made it to the final of the Abu Dhabi Open earlier in January.
And Rogers then registered a smashing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Johanna Konta in the second round.
Another challenging opponent awaits in the quarterfinal.

Gauff Huffs & Puffs to Another Victory
This competition has shown a different side of the talented Gauff. Needing to win a couple of qualifiers to make it to the main draw, including one against another talented youngster in Kaja Juvan she did that and has followed it up with back to back three-set wins.
In the first round, she had squeaked past Jasmine Paolini after having lost the initiative in the second set, but in the second round against Petra Martic, it was Gauff who had to turn things around.
Down a set, Gauff overcame the 21st-ranked Martic – one of the American’s highest-ranked scalps – 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to set up this quarterfinal encounter.
She now has a consistently in-form and fellow countrywoman as an opponent against her; question is if she has enough fuel left in her tank after three back to back three-setters?
Rogers v Gauff Prediction and Tip
This one is so close to call that bookmakers have tipped both at 5/6 to win this. We will have to go with Rogers for this one unless Gauff can find the same gear she did in the second set against Martic, especially with those rasping backhands.
