Federico Delbonis v Facundo Bagnis Head to Head

This has been a long-standing rivalry that began in 2011 and has seen Delbonis and Bagnis face off six times before this across the different circuits. All six matches came on clay with Delbonis winning four and Bagnis just two of them.

Their last encounter was held at the Todi Challenger in 2017 which Delbonis won, having also won the previous one in the final of the 2015 Sarasota Challenger.

Delbonis Opens His Account in 2021

The 84th-ranked Delbonis had played just one match coming into this tournament in Cordoba, one at the Great Ocean Road Open just prior to the Australian Open. The Argentine lost it in straight sets to Matt Ebden before opting out of the season’s first Grand Slam before flying to Cordoba for this tournament.

And nearly a couple of months after the start of the year, Delbonis finally won his first match of the season, defeating Pedro Sousa 6-4, 6-4 to reach the second round.

Delbonis was on court for an hour and 24 minutes, took the early lead in both sets before wrapping it up in contrasting manner. In the first set, he was broken back by Sousa to bring it to 3-3 before Delbonis repeated the dose in the ninth game.

In the second, the Argentine raced off to a 4-1 lead with two breaks of serve, dropped serve once but that wasn’t enough to stop him from winning the encounter.

Bagnis Wins His First Match Too

Unlike Delbonis, Bagnis has played a lot more on the Challenger tour this year but like him, his only match at the highest level came at the Australian Open, in the qualifiers there though. And he bowed out to Ramkumar Ramanathan before moving on to the Challenger circuit.

Early defeats at the Istanbul and Antalya Challenger competitions were followed by a quarterfinal appearance in the second tournament in Antalya, but he fell away in the first round yet again at the Concepcion Challenger, losing to the 165th-ranked Alejandro Tabilo in the opener.

What Bagnis will hope for is some sort of consistency, especially on a surface he prefers playing on – clay – but up against a player who has had a wood on him and is a better-ranked one too, things could get interesting.

Delbonis v Bagnis Prediction and Tip

Delbonis is 3/5 to win this and we are backing him to edge out Bagnis but not before the latter pushes the higher-ranked player in this contest.

Tip: Delbonis to win: 3/5 (bet365)
