Camila Giorgi v Viktoria Kuzmova Head to Head
This will be their second meeting with Giorgi having won their previous encounter, played in the qualifiers of the Cincinnati Open of 2018 in a gruelling three-setter.

Two tournaments played, two matches won and two second round defeats. Those have been Giorgi’s results in this season so far, and the former world number 26 has lost four spots already from where she was on the WTA charts at the beginning of the year.
To be fair to Giorgi, some part of the blame can be apportioned to the draw itself, with her defeats at those two tournaments in Melbourne – Yarra Valley Classic and Australian Open – coming to Sofia Kenin and Iga Swiatek, two of the top players in the world today.
This comes on the back of a less-than-stellar end to the previous season for Giorgi, in which she finished with a 3-5 win-loss record following her semifinal appearance at the Palermo Open. That performance in Palermo has been her only time in 18 months where she has won three matches in a row in tournament.
What she would want from here is at the very least an easy early win to allow her to get into some sort of a rhythm. She faces a player ranked around 20 places behind her in her opener.

Kuzmova Yet to Win a Set This Season
Interestingly, the 102nd-ranked Kuzmova has also played in just two tournaments this season, both of which are the same as the ones Giorgi played in. And like her opponent here, Kuzmova’s record has been equally consistent – only difference being she has lost in the first round at both tournaments.
Starting out the season as a direct entrant into the Australian Open, Kuzmova looked to have struggled to adapt to the quarantine life as she fell to back to back losses to Daria Gavrilova and Victoria Azarenka. In doing so, she won a sum total of six games across the four sets, something she would like to turn around.
Kuzmova doesn’t have a lot to go with, having won just three main draw matches in the whole of the previous season. Now it might have been a curtailed one alright, but Kuzmova did participate in 10 of the tournaments and to then come away with such an appalling result would have been a body blow for the former world number 43.
