Pavlyuchenkova Hoping for More Consistency

A world number 13 at her best, Pavlyuchenkova has been struggling for consistency in the early part of this season. The Russian has played in four tournaments so far and lost in the first round at two of them including the Australian Open.

To be fair to her, at least two of her losses in those four tournaments have come against very tough opponents – like Naomi Osaka and Garbine Muguruza tough – and the others have had also had their share of difficulties. In the Abu Dhabi Open, for instance, Pavlyuchenkova was a 7-6, 6-3 loser to Ons Jabeur in the opener while her latest defeat, at the Phillip Island Open was a three-set loss to Daria Kasatkina.

This run of mediocre form was on display last season as well, when the post-pandemic break part of the season saw her with an exactly same win-loss record as she has now – three wins to four defeats.

What Pavlyuchenkova would hope for a deeper run than usual but in a field full of top-notch players, and with Petra Kvitova waiting next, she will have to shrug off her form in a big way to be able to do that.

Pliskova Awaiting First Maiden Draw Win in 2021

It hasn’t been the best start for Pliskova, having lost both her opening round matches in the two tournaments she has played so far – first going down to Vera Zvonareva at the Yarra Valley Classic and then losing to Heather Watson at the Australian Open.

While her Pavlyuchenkova has the excuse of some of her defeats coming to highly pedigreed oppositions, Pliskova would be ruing both her losses. Here in Doha, she has done well though, coming through in straight sets through three qualifying rounds to make it to the main draw.

However, for a player whose last main draw win came at the 2020 French Open, it does sound like a difficult proposition to turn things around against a player who has shown she can take on opponents ranked as low as Pliskova’s 75th.

Pavlyuchenkova v Pliskova Prediction and Tip

Pavlyuchenkova is 1/2 to win this and while we believe Pliskova could give her opponent a run for her money, the Russian should come away with a win here.

Tip: Pavlyuchenkova to win: 1/2 (bet365)
