Anett Kontaveit v Angelique Kerber Head to Head

Kontaveit leads the matchup 3-1.

Kerber’s only win came in the Round of 16 of the Qatar Open in 2019, when she reached the semifinals of the tournament before falling to eventual champion Elise Mertens.

Kontaveit won in Rome 2017, Stuttgart 2018 and in Cincinnati 2019. She has bageled the former No. 1 twice in her career and none of their matches have needed a third set to decide a winner.

Kontaveit Powers Past Brady

Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit got her first top 20 win of the season as she overwhelmed the 2021 Australian Open runner-up Jennifer Brady in the first round on Monday.

The 25-year-old dominated the match from start to finish, hitting 17 winners and making just nine unforced errors to send the seventh seed packing with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

A six-time finalist on the tour and the winner at ’s-Hertogenbosch in 2017, Kontaveit didn’t face a single break point in the match, while converting four of seven to dispatch the American in 53 minutes.

The win improved the former No. 14 to 6-2 this year. Having begun the season with a first round exit in Abu Dhabi, Kontaveit won all her matches at the Grampians Trophy to setup a final with American Ann Li. The final, however, couldn’t take place due to a delay in schedule and both the finalists received the points and prize money they would have received as a winner.

At the Australian Open, the Estonian won her first two rounds against Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Heather Watson, respectively, but was ousted by Shelby Rogers in the Round of 32.

Kerber Overcomes Slow Start To Oust Turkish Wild Card

Former World No. 1 and three-time major champion Angelique Kerber overcame a slow start to oust Turkey’s Cagla Buyukakcay in the first round on Monday.

Having fallen 1-4 behind in the first set, the German recovered quickly and kept getting better as the match progressed, to defeat the wild card 6-4, 6-2.

Kerber, who finished runner-up to Simona Halep at the 2014 Qatar Open, saved six of nine break points, and converted six of eight to beat the Turkish player in an hour and 34 minutes.

A winner of 12 singles titles, the 33-year-old began the season with wins over Katerina Siniakova and Ons Jabeur in the first two rounds of the Grampians Trophy but was knocked out by Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals.

At the Australian Open, the 2016 champion was outplayed by American Bernarda Pera in the first round, winning just four games in a 0-6, 4-6 rout.

A 30-time finalist, the lefty hasn’t won a title since winning the Wimbledon in 2018. She did reach the finals at Indian Wells and Eastbourne in 2019, but has struggled for form over the last couple of years.

Kontaveit v Kerber Prediction and Tip

Kontaveit has been in better touch of late and looked more convincing in her first-round win. Expect the Estonian to improve her head-to-head record against Kerber with another win.

Tip: Kontaveit to win: 3/10 (bet365)
