Angelique Kerber vs Caroline Garcia Head to Head

Kerber leads the Frenchwoman 6-2 in the head to head tally. The German has won their last 3 meetings, with the last one dating back to the 2019 WTA Mallorca quarterfinal.

Kerber Batting For Her Form

Just a few seasons ago, Angelique Kerber was a part of the top five on the WTA Tour and was among the most formidable opponents. Now, she has fallen out of the top 20 and continues to battle with her form and inconsistencies.

Kerber is 3-3 this season and has never made it past the third round in any event. She started the year in the Grampians Trophy where she fell to Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinal. In the Australian Open, she was beaten by Bernarda Pera 0-6, 4-6 in the first round itself.

The 33-year-old German had a similar run in the Qatar Open last week, where she was beaten by Anett Kontaveit in the second round.

Last season was an uneventful one for the former Wimbledon champion. She played in the three Grand Slams and a couple of other events; the best she did was reaching the fourth round in the US Open and Australian Open.

The year before, she dropped out of the top 10 despite starting the season on a brilliant note. The last time she reached the final in a WTA event was in Eastbourne in 2019.

Garcia in a Similar Boat

Kerber can seek some consolation from the fact that her opponent hasn’t had the best of the starts to the season. With the exception of the Gippsland Trophy where Garcia reached the third round, the 27-year-old Frenchwoman has lost in the opening rounds in her last four tournaments on the tour.

In the Australian Open, she was beaten by Naomi Osaka in round two. In the Phillip Island Trophy and Adelaide International thereafter, she lost in the first round itself.

Looking for some kind of resurgence, Garcia played in her home tournament in Lyon last week. She did not have much luck there either as she fell to Viktorija Golubic 6-1, 6-2 in the second round.

Comparing her form with Kerber last season, it has been along the same lines in terms of results. Even though Garcia played in more events, she did not make it to the penultimate rounds in any of them.

Kerber vs Garcia Prediction and Tip

This is an evenly matched tie that can very well go either way. Kerber may have the superiority in the head-to-head tally but going by her recent inconsistencies with form, she is not immune anymore. Garcia will fancy her chances here. Expect a good game with many games.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
