Cori Gauff vs Jil Teichmann Head to Head

Gauf holds a 2-0 lead over Teichmann, with both their meetings take place in 2021 itself.

They first met in the Gippsland Trophy opening round where the American won in three sets. A week later, they met again in the same round but in the Australian Open. This time, Gauff dispatched the Swiss 6-3, 6-2.

Gauff in a Brilliant Form

The 16-year-old American sensation is turning heads on the WTA Tour with some scintillating tennis. She rose to prominence in 2019 by reaching the fourth round in the Wimbledon and third round in the US Open – the very year she made her WTA debut.

Now, she is moving closer to winning the biggest title of her career so far by making it to the quarterfinal in Dubai. In fact, this is her second such consecutive run with the last one coming in Adelaide International a couple of weeks ago.

Gauff was awarded a wildcard in Dubai, where she started with a three-set thriller win against Ekaterina Alexandrova. Next, she met the Czech ace Marketa Voundrousova, whom she dispatched 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Things got fairly easier for her in the third round where she beat the 26-year-old Czech qualifier Tereza Martincova 6-4, 6-2 in a little over an hour.

Gauff had a similar run in Adelaide most recently where she reached the semifinal as a qualifier. There, she beat Shelby Rogers and Petra Martic before ultimately falling to Belinda Bencic. That was her best run of the season, seeing that prior to that, she had succumbed in the opening rounds of all the events she featured in.

Teichmann, in a Similar Boat

Just like Gauff, Teichmann too was a semifinalist in Adelaide a week or so ago where she was beaten by Iga Swiatek. Prior to that, she was a quarterfinalist in the Phillip Island Trophy.

Currently ranked World No. 54, the Swiss is currently enjoying what is possibly her best start to a WTA season. She is definitely turning her season around but the Gauff puzzle is something that she will be keen on solving soon.

Having lost to the young American twice this year already, the 23-year-old will be hoping that the third time is indeed the charm. In many ways, she also has luck on her side. Case in point, Teichmann got a walkover in the second round against Petra Kvitova in Dubai, who was forced to retire from the game halfway through.

In the third round, she met Ons Jabeur whom she beat 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 24 minutes.

Now, the Swiss may have experience on her side and ordinarily, that ought to help against a player who is just starting her professional career. However, she will also need mental endurance to shake off the past jitters and look at it as a fresh start against the American.

Gauff v Teichmann Prediction and Tip

This will be an entertaining affair, one that is likely to see three sets. Teichmann has grown considerably since falling to Gauff this season and will be eager to put her new skills to the test.

Gauff, meanwhile, is looking to add to her momentum with yet another clinical performance. All in all, this will be an entertaining game.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
