Cameron Norrie v Pierre-Hugues Herbert Head to Head

Herbert leads 1-0 head to head, having clinched a five-set thriller in the first round of the Australian Open last year.

They also met in the second qualifying round of the Vienna Open in 2018, and the Frenchman won that as well after the match went to a deciding third set.

Norrie Edges Past Qualifier

Britain’s Cameron Norrie labored to a three-set win against French qualifier Constant Lestienne in his Marseille opener on Wednesday.

The Brit, ranked 63rd in the world, needed two hours and 25 minutes to defeat the 219th-ranked Lestienne 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3.

The win improved Norrie to 7-4 this year.

The left-hander, who began the season with shock wins over third seed Adrian Mannarino and eighth seed Frances Tiafoe en route to the semifinals at Delray Beach, showed good form at the Australian Open as well, reaching the third round for the first time in Melbourne.

His run at Delray Beach ended with a defeat to eventual finalist Sebastian Korda, while at the Australian Open, he was overpowered by Rafael Nadal in the Round of 32.

The 25-year-old, who reached his maiden ATP final in Auckland in 2019, featured at the Rotterdam Open last week. Winning both his qualifying rounds, Norrie outplayed Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round, before being outclassed by Russia’s Karen Khachanov in the Round of 16.

The Briton, who reached a career-high ranking of 41 in 2019, had reached the third round of the U.S. Open last year (his first in the majors). He had begun the tournament in an emphatic style, rebounding from two sets down and saving two match points on way to beating Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman.

Herbert Shocks Nishikori

Facing Norrie in the second round will be World No. 93 Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who scored a stunning 6-1, 6-4 win over sixth seed Kei Nishikori in the first round on Wednesday.

Dominating the match from start to finish, Herbert struck 11 aces, didn’t face a single break point, and converted three of five break point opportunities to knock out the former World No. 4 in an hour and 11 minutes.

The win was the 29-year-old Frenchman’s second of the year.

Knocked out by David Goffin in the first round at the season opener in Antalya, Herbert got his first win of the season against American Maxime Cressy in the first round of the Adelaide International. He was, however, beaten in the second round by Jordan Thomson.

At the Australian Open, Herbert made another first-round exit, losing to Italy’s Fabio Fognini.

The right-handed Frenchman, who has completed a Career Grand Slam in doubles, is a three-time ATP finalist in singles, however, he is yet to win a title on the tour.

A former World No. 36, Herbert, who failed to qualify for Rotterdam last week, losing to Marton Fucsovics in the second qualifying round, had finished the 2020 season with a 10-10 record.

Norrie v Herbert Prediction and Tip

Herbert will take a lot of confidence from his first round rout of Nishikori and he will look to carry the momentum into the next round. Norrie, on the other hand, struggled against a lower-ranked qualifier and therefore, the Frenchman will have a slight edge going into this match.

Tip: Herbert to win: 10/11 (bet365)
