Andrey Rublev v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

There have been four previous matches between Rublev and Fucsovics and both players have won two apiece. This head to head is down to Fucsovics having won their first two encounters in 2016 and 2017 while the more recent ones, one last year and another last week, were both won by Rublev.

Last week, these two met in the final of the Rotterdam Open and Rublev proved to be too good for Fucsovics, winning 7-6, 6-4.

Rublev Yet to Lift His Racquet!

It’s the quarterfinal stage of the competition and the Russian Rublev is yet to play a ball in anger this week. That’s thanks to the bye he got in the first round, like some of the other top seeds and then a walkover he received from Richard Gasquet in the second round.

While it could mean he could be rusty, Rublev would also welcome the break, the chance of directly playing in the quarterfinal instead of going through the first few rounds. That’s because of the amount of tennis he has already played.

It started with the ATP Cup where he won all his four singles matches to help Russia lift the title, and then went on to feature in the Australian Open where he made it as far as the quarterfinals, losing only to fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev. And following on from there, Rublev then dropped just one set en route his title-winning campaign at the Rotterdam Open where he defeated Fucsovics in the final.

Refreshed from the break, he should not have too many issues coming into this encounter.

Fucsovics Continues Solid Run

In a way it’s sad Fucsovics has had to face Rublev this early in the tournament after having played him in the final last week because the Hungarian has been in some excellent form.

Other than his appearance in the final of the Rotterdam Open, where he had started off as a qualifier, Fucsovics had also managed to make it to the third round of the Australian Open earlier this year. That included a second round win over Stan Wawrinka.

And here, in Doha, he has already gotten past Dusan Lajovic and Lloyd Harris to enter the last eight stage of the tournament. It wasn’t the most straightforward encounter against Harris, with Fucsovics losing the first set to one break of serve and then going down 1-3 in the second set tie-breaker.

It was at that time the match turned out as Fucsovics went on a four-point winning streak before closing out the tie-breaker 7-5. The final set was a lot easier for the Hungarian who sealed off his place in the last eight against Rublev.

Rublev v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

It isn’t any surprise that Rublev is 1/5 to win this and we are quite sure he would start off as a heavy favourite here. The question is if Fucsovics can push him hard, even take a set off him.

Tip: Rublev to win AND Over 20.5 games in the match: 13/10 (bet365)
