Dusan Lajovic v Malek Jaziri  Head to Head

The pair have met twice before on the senior tour, both in Masters events, in Paris in 2016 and Monte Carlo in 2019, and Lajovic won on each occasion in straight sets.

Lajovic Beat Medvedev in Rotterdam

Lajovic has been in mixed form in 2021 so far.

He began his year in Melbourne where he reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, his best ever performance at a Grand Slam, before losing to Alexander Zverev.

However, he followed that up by losing to the Austrian Dennis Novak in the first round in Montpellier.

Moving then to Rotterdam, he had a big win in the first round against the top seed and world number three, Daniil Medvedev, but would have been disappointed to have then lost to Borna Coric in straight sets in the second round.

And last week, he has another opening round disappointment in Doha, losing to Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, the world 44.

He had a bye in the opening round in Dubai.

Jaziri Hoping to Up the Ante

Veteran Jaziri did not travel to Australia earlier this year but chose to stay in Europe, where he splits his time between the Challenger and the Senior Tours.

Recently, he has started to pick up wildcards for several tournaments,. such as in Doha last week, where he met Norbert Gombos of Slovakia in the first round and enjoyed a straight sets win.

However, his run was then ended in convincing fashion by the eventual winner of the tournament, Nikoloz Basilashvili, the Tunisian taking just four games off the Georgian.

Given another wildcard for Dubai, he met Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in the first round on Sunday. However, with the scores three all in the first set, Tsonga was forced to withdraw. Immediately afterwards reports circulated that Tsonga had decided to retire from tennis with immediate effect, although this now appears to have been “fake news”.

Lajovic v Jaziri Prediction and Tip

This should be a comfortable victory for the Serb against the wildcard who is now at the veteran stage of his career.

Tip: Lajovic to win in straight sets: 4/9 (bet365)
