Diego Schwartzman v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.

Schwartzman Wins his Fourth Singles Title

The 28-year-old Diego Schwartzman had a brilliant run last week in his home tournament in the Buenos Aires Open. He won his first singles title since 2019, beating Francisco Cerundolo in the final with 6-1, 6-2. Schwartzman went the entire tournament without dropping a single set to deliver his best run of the season so far.

The Argentinean rose to prominence last season after he cracked the top 10 on the back of a stellar performance. He reached three singles finals (losing in them ultimately), including the Rome Masters and the Cologne Championships. It is worth mentioning that in the Italian Masters, he beat the likes of Rafael Nadal and Denis Shapovalov to reach the final.

Additionally, Schwartzman was also a semifinalist in the French Open and ATP Buenos Aires, which eventually helped him become World No. 9. He ended the season in the ATP Finals where he lost all three of his robin-round fixtures.

Even this season, Schwartzman has started on a somewhat consistent note. In the Australian Open and ATP Cordoba, he reached the third round before falling respectively to Aslan Karatsev and Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Musetti Starting to Tap into ATP Tour

The 19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti has spent the last couple of seasons primarily on the Challenger circuit to build his form. He won the Australian Open Juniors title back in 2019 so needless to say, he is still at the very start of his professional tennis career.

Nonetheless, the Italian has made great strides forward in a short span of time. So far this year, he has featured in two finals of the Challenger events in Antalya and Biella, losing respectively to Jaume Munar and Soonwoo Kwon.

As for his run in the ATP events, Musetti tried his luck in the Australian Open where he fell in the opening qualifying round. In Acapulco, he did manage to clear all three of his qualifying matches to set up the first-round clash with Schwartzman.

The teenager can seek some solace from the fact that he has beaten the likes of Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori last year in the Italian Open. He delivered his best run in Rome by reaching the third round as a qualifier. Additionally, he was a semifinalist in the ATP Sardinia too.

Schwartzman v Musetti Prediction and Tip

Schwartzman will start as the heavy, odds-on favourite to win this game on account of his experience and form. Musetti, however, is a wildcard who can make life difficult for the Argentinean.

Expect a good game here.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
