Paolini Scores Fourth Come-from-Behind Win in 2021

Facing Schmiedlova in the next round will be Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, who rebounded from a set down to defeat ninth seed Nao Hibino of Japan in the first round on Monday.

The Italian, ranked No. 100 in the world, saved five of eight break points and converted five of seven to beat the World No. 81, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 54 minutes.

This was Paolini’s fourth come-from-behind win this year. The first of those was against China’s Qiang Wang in the second round of the Gippsland Trophy. Then at the Adelaide International, the Italian right-hander rallied against American Asia Muhammad to win the first qualifying round and followed the pattern in the second qualifying round against Australia’s Astra Sharma.

The 25-year-old, who lost her first round matches to Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in Abu Dhabi and Karolina Pliskova at the Australian Open, has also been involved in two other close three-setters this year.

Having reached the third round of the Gippsland Trophy, she went down fighting to Karolina Muchova after forcing the decider, and then in Adelaide, she lost her first round match against Cori Gauff despite winning the second set in a tie-break.

Schmiedlova v Paolini Prediction and Tip

Given Paolini’s dominance over Schmiedlova, she could well be in with a chance to overturn the odds of 6/4 for her win.
